A Muslim parliamentary journalist attached to Thinakkural Tamil daily office in Colombo received Friday [15 February] threats from Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) paramilitary [as published] group [Tamil Tiger breakaway faction] in a letter to his office address, warning him not to write news against their organization and that they will kill him if he does not heed the warning, the journalist said. The letter, written on TMVP letterhead, said that news stories written by Mohamed Anseer and the articles written in his nom de plume in Thinakkural criticizing the TMVP are detrimental to the party and will not be tolerated. Anseer made complaints about the death threat to Mukaththuvaaram police. Anseer also made representation to Free Media Movement, Ceylon Tamil Journalists' Union and Muslim Media Forum in Colombo.
