Sri Lanka TV channel chiefs receive death threats - paper

Text of unattributed report headlined "Death threats to MTV, Sirasa heads" published by Sri Lankan newspaper Daily Mirror website on 2 January

Death threats have been levelled against MTV [Maharaj TV] head Chevaan Daniel and Sirasa Director Kingsley Ratnayaka and a police complaint had been made to that effect.

A Maharagama police officer confirmed that a complaint was lodged on Monday night [31 December] over alleged death threats but refused to divulge any details.

The threats came in the wake of the much publicized Rupavahini incident which was given wide publicity over both Sirasa and MTV TV stations last Thursday as well as during the last few days.

Posters had also sprung up in several areas this week against the Sirisa and MTV coverage of the Rupavahini incident.
