The National Union of Somali Journalist, NUSOJ, is denouncing today threats against journalist Abdullahi Hassan Ghedi, known Januune, in the Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. Through local reporters, supporters of businessman Bashir Ragge Shirar have been sending messages of threatening to Mr. Januune over a photograph taken from the Businessman. Bashir Ragge personally told Januune in a Press Conference held recently in Mogadishu by newly-founded Coalition of Counterterrorism and Peace, which businessman Bashir Ragge is a member, that a photo he (Januune) took from the businessman was badly taken and criticized to him (Bashir). However, Abdullahi Hassan Ghedi distanced himself this accusation, and denied that he took a photo which was misused. “I don’t know exactly the picture they are talking about” he added. Januune, who is experienced photojournalist, is a member of the executive committee of NUSOJ as the union’s Treasurer. “We denounce this kind of threat which is totally against the freedom of a journalist” said Omar Faruk Osman, the NUSOJ Secretary General. “Efforts are in process to free him from this blame”. NUSOJ is urging opposing armed groups of the Coalition of Counterterrorism and Peace and Alliance of Islamic Courts not to imperil the life of journalists and generally to refrain fighting in the civilian people. On the other hand, Journalist Yasin Hassan Muse is in critical condition after, when, he was seriously injured in Galinson town of Galgadud region at least a week ago. This news did not surface except today. While injured, Yasin was on his way to Garowe, the headquarters of Puntland, to attend a media workshop. He is being treated in Beledweyne district of Hiran region, where he originally left. Bandits opened fire to the Minibus that Yasin was riding; other passengers were also wounded in this accident.
