Private Radio Station Attacked (NUSOJ)

Band of soldiers of the Transitional Federal Government compellingly entered Monday 18 September 2006 the premises of Radio Warsan, formerly known Democratic Media Concern (DMC), in Baidoa. The soldiers shut down the radio station for about 2 hours and briefly arrested the director and the six of the journalists.

The soldiers took the arrested personnel of the radio to the residence of president Abdullahi Yusuf , according to one of the arrested journalists.

During the arrest, the soldiers seized the mobile phones of the staff although they returned when releasing the Warsan personnel. "The armed men asked us several questions, but released us after two hours approximately" said one of the arrested journalists who feared from retaliation if his name is stated.

Baidoa journalists expressed that this attack on Warsan radio happened when a suiciding car drove to a convoy of President Abdullahi Yusuf who were driving between Conference Hall of the Transitional parliament and president's residence, where the Warsan radio situates. --
